CLEANING TRIMMER BLADES
Trimmer blades should be cleaned periodically to remove
sap and accum
ulated debris.
To Clean Blades:
1.
Turn ignition switch to
ST
OP
position. Remove spark
plug boot.
2.
Wash blades with kerosene. Use a stiff bristle brush to
remo
ve dirt, debris or sap that has accumulated on
blades.
3.
Reinstall spark plug boot.
4. The cutting blades are made from high quality, hard-
ened steel and with normal usage, they will not require
resharpening. However, if you accidentally hit a wire
fence, stones, glass or other hard objects, you may put
a nick in the blade. There is no need to remove this nick
as long as it does not interfere with the movement of
the blade. If it does interfere, use a fine toothed file or
sharpening stone to remove the nick.
5. If you drop the trimmer, carefully inspect it for damage.
If the blade is bent, housing cracked, or handles broken
or if you see any other condition that may affect the
tr
immer’s operation contact a professional service cen-
ter f
or repairs bef
ore putting it back into use.
6. Do not store unit near fertilizers as they contain coro-
sives that may cause the blade to rust more rapidly.
AIR FILTER
To Clean Air Filter:
1. Remove cover (A) by depressing clip on front of cover
and lift filter (B) from air box (Figure 13 & Figure 14).
2. Wash filter in soap and water.
DO NOT USE GASO-
LINE!
3. Air dry filter and cover.
4. Reinstall filter.
NOTE: Replace filter if frayed, torn, damaged or unable
to be cleaned.
DO NOT loosen the
bolts or nuts retaining
the blades to the bar. This operation is intended
to be performed by a Troy Bilt Authorized
Service Center.
CAUTION :
DO NOT OIL or lubri-
cate trimmer blades. It
is important that blades have complete running
freedom.
CAUTION :
NEVER operate
hedge trimmer with-
out the air filter. The air filter must be kept
clean. If it becomes damaged, install a new fil-
ter.
